I seriously need to get back on this thing. I was carrying that camera around for quite a while and then it feels like I got hit by an amnesia beam or something.

I am wearing an almost full suit today despite the high temperatures.

A strange thing about this year has been the amount of things I've learned about being sartorial (granted, not applying those lessons into the everyday). Some of the best dressing advice that I have received all year was to wear what makes you comfortable and happy, in essence it becomes your signature and source of power. Still working on that one though. I need to go on a sartorial spirit journey and try some new things out.

Also, I'm reading Harry Potter again.

So I did take some photos this past weekend, the previous post containing one from a coffee trip I took in the early hours.

I contemplated doing a review of my coffee-going experience but seeing as how I only tried one item* and walked with my coffee I would not be able to give a good assessment of the shop.

That said, I'm working on sketches for possible work for a gallery and will put up a few more photos as the week progresses.

Serious writing may be reserved for next week, when I get back from a good friend's wedding!

... but I may get addicted to British Panel shows. QI, Buzzcocks, and Have I got news for you. Lord. I need to figure out where this anglophile streak comes from.

Now for a ham fisted segway into the fact that once again, to no avail I have left this blog very much unattended.

So as an experiment, I'm going to take a page out of the Erin Filson playbook and find a way to commit to this thing at least on a weekly basis with stories of my travels, perhaps accompanied with photos.

Who knows though, it continues to be a strangely busy time for me. Fits and starts.

ON TO A LIST!

5 Things I need to do in the month of June 2011:

1. Learn to wake up at 5:30/6:00 am again. (Because not only will I get more out of my day, I need to learn how to not sleep again. There is simply too much to do.)
2. Update this blog! (If not for any other reason than I would like to start chronicling the strange places I discover and start putting my thoughts somewhere else than just my head)
3. Draw more! (Ideally every day but for the moment I need to get the rust out of my hands. I wake up every morning with a picture in my head. Nothing to do but try to make it real, if I mess up there is always another try)
4. Commit to a workout schedule (Speaks for itself)
5. Relax a bit. Its summer. Plus I have a wedding to attend.

I envision a day when I don't have to look at this thing like an abandoned woodshop project in the basement called "things to do better."

However, there have been a few realizations that have made themselves known that I apparently need to follow for a better life.
According to the television, I've gotta work on my "Gym. Tan. Laundry." Better get to work on that.

At any rate. There has been much to report on. Just not enough time to transcribe.

Both a sign of prosperity and chaos.

Weak Week

Tee Hee. Words.

I don't mean to say that anything that happened this week was "weak." It's more because I haven't blogged at all this week. I am not without stories but I am without a decent internet signal and time to honker down into a chair and muse. I am glad to announce that I will be playing a very large part in the next Robot Hand production. Which is to say that I will not only be helping with title design but I will be in the role of a giant monster. Filming tomorrow.

Otherwise I've been trying to open my third eye and welcome Christmas into my brain, which has been a pretty difficult task.

Techincal Difficulties.

Less than a few days after re-committing to this blog I find myself without internet. By that I mean our Wi-Fi is kind of buggy right now so please bear with me. I am writing some reviews of films and perhaps a TV show for further updates to the blog so there will be material on wax that I can dip into and upload.

Keeping that in mind. The next review will either be of John Carpenter's film, "They Live" or the first season of AMC's "The Walking Dead."

Anyone exicted? I am.

So in my efforts to try an restore this blog to some semblance of readability I have found myself wanting to making major cosmetic tweaks (new header, new title, better profile pic/content). So in the next few days I'm going to play with colors and tomorrow I'm going to work on a new header for the site. Something a little more all encompassing and incorporating the title of "Confusion INK."

Watching the clock run down. Desperately in need of a walk and a talk. That should be rectified soon enough.

I'm going to try photos tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

I realize the last time I logged into this blog I made a promise that "more was to come."

I fully intended that to be true. I've had a bit of a lightning strike lately. I am going to do my best to keep this as a kind of daily blog.

With that in mind, can anyone remind me what the proper banner size is for blogger? I want to make a new one while I embark on this new fantastic voyage.

Thinking Future-wise

Yet another Transformers piece... I know. Theres a pattern here I need to break. This was intended for another show at the King of Prussia mall's IMAX theatre but due to a lack of wheels and knowhow in terms of Philly's transportation system and proximity to the mall it never made it in time. A little bummed about it but I need keep moving. The plus side of this being done is now I can mentally move on to do a few pieces I've been dying to get out of my system. I want to do 2 new sets of cards and a few drawings just for myself. Plus the Golden Age show is rapidly approaching. The only big obsticle in my way right now is life in its bigger picture sense. I have a lot of packing left to do over the next 4 days and when I get home I really need to hit the pavement hard to get a job. I really want an art job, but for the moment I just need something to give me the money to pay for my storage space, pay off student loans, and give me the piece of mind to look at Mast Heads and Barnes and Nobles for a few hours a week. Anywho, until next time.

Buddy Boy here is my submission for the AS show at Brave New Worlds tomorrow. Due to my lack of a computer for a week and confusion over the hang date, I had to speed production on ol' Megatron but I don't think he suffered too much. In retrospect I probably should have done a turtles piece as there is going to be a transformers gig later this month closer to the release of the film but no complaints. I do want to do a Prime piece, actually what I have in mind for that one is far more intracate and related to the film being released so maybe I'll feel a bit less geeky if I give myself the excuse that its two universes... or more geeky. Anywho now that I have my drawing groove back and my computer there should be more updates coming. I want to shoot for at least once a week. Peace!

Portfolio Review: The Final Frontier

So today is the final review of my portfolio. Very excited. The only thing I have left to do is print out an attach my Backtis (essentially my name, phone number, email, address, etc) and then I'm done with portfolio. A very surreal feeling is coming over me at this time, an exciting feeling but still one of disbelief. As a sophmore and a junior I watched as the seniors worked in their private studios and put together amazing bodies of work that I never thought myself capable of doing. There was this heavy disconnect between who I felt I was and who I felt they were. It was like being in the presence of demigods and I was but a lowly serf struggling to find my voice. Now here I am, in the shoes of those very same people who I was looking up at less than a year ago, going through the same stuggles they've been through and I do feel changed. I don't think I'm a demigod by any stretch of the imagination but I feel much more confident about myself and my work, and have gained a better grasp on what I'm capable of. If you had asked my last year to try and put together any of what I've put together this year, though I'm sure the attempt would be valiant, I wouldn't have even thought myself able to. Its been a great year, and now I'm about to be judged, given my final cirtique (well, not quite. I have one tomorrow too) and then prepare myself to go out into the real world and put these lessons to work. Very exciting, but to be honest, also a little scary but if this year has taught me anything, its that hard work pays off and its good to be tenacious and if you're willing to go all in and work as hard as you can, you can survive.

It seems as though I need to learn about the image settings on blogger as the last piece I posted refuses to enlarge. So it seems I might have to get a flickr account or some sort of image host so that I can avoid this in the future. Its funny how alien the concept of blogging is to me now. I had a livejournal site for a very long time but its primary function was just me letting out steam and then it just shifted into amusing videos followed by a sentence post every couple of months. I do see the importance and application of blogging in todays illustration and I guess I've got to re-introduce myself to the idea of at least weekly updates.

So, I'm working on ideas for the Eighties show thats coming up. For the past two weeks I was convinced that I should do a strictly Transformers piece for it, considering that Transformers is one thing from eighties nostalgia that I still hold sort of close and its' weird in that I remember the cartoon fondly but don't really collect the toys in the sort of semi religious way most Transformers people do. I think if I had the expendable income I might pick up a few of the really cool toys from the eighties that had the best designs or characters I liked but not from a collectors standpoint. I was much more a fan of the cartoon and the comic in that the stories ranged from ridiculous and silly to ridiculous and slightly more serious. The 1986 film is one of my all time favorite guilty pleasure movies and I know it backwards and forwards. So it seemed natural to to a piece on Transformers as opposed to say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, my brain was racked on how I could handle such a piece without making it look totally silly or difficult to look at from the perspective of someone who was not a fan. I was thinking about handling the image like my two comic con promo pieces pictured above. I think though I need to handle the piece as everything about my eighties nostalgia all bundled into one so that I don't burrow myself to deep in my own geekiness.

Might as well get actually started.

In an attempt to keep this blog timely and get myself in the habit of posting more often I will post my most recent piece, finished fresh today!

This is to date, the largest piece I've worked on with its dimensions being somewhere between 18 x 19. When naming this particular beast I kept wanting to call it "Monstructor" but I like "King Combiner" better. It initially started as a DVD cover for the series Megas XLR (if you look hard you still might be able to see him..) but then became another piece entirely. I've been looking at the color schemes of the old marvel Transformers comics for inspiration. I think its' working out fairly well. Until next time,
